From first glance at this picture, you would assume the king is the older person in the front but actually the king is standing behind the teacher. The two seem to be embracing each other maybe in sexual nature. This era seems to very open with their sexuality.
It is actually an interaction between the spiritual and the physical worlds (priest/teacher and king). A king would always take the back seat to a priest/teacher since the physical world is always inferior to the spirit world.
ReplyDeleteThats what I first thought. King in front and teacher in the back. Until I read the passage and went to class to find out, its the opposite. But it would make sense if the young guy is learning from the old guy. Not the other way around.
